Athens is a picturesque southern town nestled in the rolling hills of east Tennessee. The courthouse square sits in the center of the downtown area surrounded by churches, a college and a variety of family-owned shops, businesses and restaurants.  Since its founding in 1822, Athens has seen many eras of development still visible in the interesting mix of architectural styles.  The charm of the past and the personal service and hospitality of today make Athens a very special place to visit or call home.

So thankful for the downtown businesses who put their lights up on their buildings. It looks so nice. Wish all the businesses would do it. Come downtown at night and notice those who have the lights and thank them. Every year Hacker Signs gives us a discount on the bucket truck so we can reach the two and three story buildings. Thank you, John Mizer, for all the hours you spent getting those lights up.
About the courthouse...we can't reach the lights to replace the bulbs, the bucket truck isn't quite tall enough. Hopefully next year... unless someone has a tall bucket truck they'd like to donate.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR from your Downtown Business Association.

We couldn't have special events without the volunteers and I know they don't do it for recognition, but it's past time for a big thank you. Anne Montgomery with TWU was the first to volunteer when I called about Old Fashioned Downtown Christmas. Cheerleading students from our newest DBA member, Champion Force helped with Santa. Three young men from Cleveland State helped with the Carriage Rides and Luke Winter, the soccer coach from TWU got his whole team to help! And because of that I could stop calling! Yay! There were many more that helped but these were the ones I (Elaine Newman) I recruited. Just wanted you to know who they were and how much we appreciated them Merry Christmas ...
